Letters Policy
The Miscellany News is Vassar College's open forum for discussion of campus, local and national issues and welcomes letters and Opinions articles from all readers.
Letters: A letter is generally less than 500 words and may be submitted by any member of the Vassar community. Letters are only subject to editing for clarity and grammar.
Articles: Any reader who wishes to write an Opinions article should consult the Opinions editor. The editor may be contacted at misc@vassar.edu or by phone, 845-437-5349.
All contributors are responsible for checking all facts stated in articles and for backing up each allegation of fact. A contributor must express his/her opinion in a clear, cohesive manner.
All contributors are responsible for backing up any defamatory statements made against individuals or organizations within the Vassar community. No defamatory statements against individuals may be made concerning issues that are not of public interest.
The Miscellany News attempts to print all material submitted, but reserves the right not to publish letters or opinion pieces or to return them to the writer for revision. All submitted materials become the property of The Miscellany News and are subject to editing for clarity and grammar. All letters to the editor and Opinions articles must be signed.
If possible, letters should be submitted on a CD with the author's name, class year, phone number and a word count. Letters may be sent to Vassar College Box 149. Letters for Friday's issue are due in the box by the previous Sunday at 4 p.m.
The paper holds weekly meetings each Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the College Center. All members of the Vassar community interested in joining the newspaper's staff or joining in a critique of the current issue are welcome.
