Library hours to change at start of academic year

Due to a series of staffing difficulties that emerged this past summer, the Library will close at 12 a.m. on Sunday-Thursday evenings. Since the decision was announced, the VSA Executive Board has spoken with President Hill as well as Dean of Planning and Academic Affairs Rachel Kitzinger, who oversees the Libraries. Administrators worked this summer to avoid changing Library hours, and fully realize the burden that these changes place on students. As the Executive Board has argued, it places a particularly difficult burden on students with athletics practices or drama rehearsals who are unable to use the Library earlier in the evenings.

Administrators are actively working to correct the sensitive staffing issues. The hope is that there will be a return to normal hours (1:30 a.m.
closing time, Sunday-Thursday) within one month. September typically sees some of the lowest usage rates of the academic year, particularly late at
night. The disruption was unfortunately unavoidable, but VSA leadership and College administrators agree that every effort must be made to return the hours to their previous level. Dean Kitzinger will send an e-mail to the student body about the situation tomorrow.
