Assistant News EditorAt an emergency council meeting on April 10, the Vassar Students Association (VSA) decided to delay its 2008 elections until April 30th. This means that unlike their predecessors, this year’s new VSA Council members will not take office until after Spring Convocation.
The dates of the election were pushed back so that current Davison residents would have the chance to run for office for their new dorms. The decision came after the office of Residential Life made a late decision to postpone the date of the Davison house draw to April 23. The draw will now take place after pre-registration for the fall semester closes.
At its emergency meeting, the VSA passed a resolution concerning the change in election procedure. The council discussed having two separate elections for house teams and off-campus elections take, but council members expressed concerns that having two elections would lower voter turn-out and compromise elections. The passed resolution calls for all elections to take place simultaneously.
Students will now file for candidacy for all positions starting April 1 and ending April 25. Voting will take place from April 30 to May 2, and election results will be announced on May 4. Because room draw will precede elections, house officers will have no priority in selecting their rooms as they have had in previous years.
