Amelia Maxfield Sports Editor

The men’s volleyball team made history last weekend when they competed as the fourth seed at the 2008 Molten Men’s Division III Championship on April 11 and 12. The team entered the tournament with a 26-5 overall record and was undefeated in the North Eastern Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) play. They had also just clinched the NECVA Championship title the weekend earlier on April 4-6.

The Brewers defeated first-ranked University of California, Santa Cruz on Friday, April, 11 in three games to advance to the championship match. Springfield College defeated Juniata College to meet the Brewers in the finals.

Springfield had outmatched Vassar earlier in the season at the Nazareth Tournament, and while the Brewers had notable performances by John Kessenich ’09 and Steve Micucci ’09, who were named to the all-tournament team, the result last weekend was the same. Springfield defeated Vassar 3-0 (30-26, 30-24, 30-20), ending the team’s’ most successful season in the team’s history.
