Staff WriterBeing a matriculated student grants you roughly 1,400 days to call Vassar your academic home and yourself a Vassar student. Depending on whether or you go abroad, you may spend less than half of those days on campus.
For the Class of 2008, the celebration of 100 Nights tomorrow marks the beginning of the end of their Vassar careers.
In the past, 100 Nights has been held at the Alumnae House or in the Villard Room, beginning as a seniors-only gathering that then opens to the entire campus.
This year 100 Nights will be composed of two separate, overlapping events in different locales. The seniors-exclusive portion will consist of a red-carpet/Hollywood-themed champagne toast in the Library lobby from 10 p.m.-12 a.m.
“We are able to have the event in the library for a few reasons,” said Class of 2008 President Colin Sanders, “including the senior class's connection to the library with the gift.”
At the toast, seniors will be encouraged to make contributions toward the senior class gift, which will consist of new senior thesis carrels.
At 11 p.m., a campus-wide party, hosted in collaboration with Vassar College Entertainment (ViCE), will begin in the Villard Room featuring a performance from Girl Talk. Seniors can arrive to the concert in fashion by following a “red carpet” that will stretch from the Library to the Villard Room.
“There will be beer, great music, sweet lights...All the makings for a fabulous party. ViCE is spending…approximately $10,000,” said Town Houses President Julia Golomb ’08.
“It’s bittersweet for me and many of my classmates,” Golomb said. “We’ll have an amazing time celebrating seniordom and our last semester together, but at the same time...only 100 nights left at Vassar.”
The bittersweet feeling is a common sentiment among the senior class.
“I am sad that I will soon have to leave this school, but happy about my time here and the incredible people who I am met here,’ said Vassar Student Association Sam Charner ’08. “For me, Vassar is my home and I know it will be hard for me to make a new home after I graduate.”
The event reminds all seniors just how near graduation is.
“[100 Nights] doesn’t make me nervous for the future,” said Senior Class Council member Miranda Robertson, “but instead excited to spend a night with seniors celebrating ourselves and Vassar.”
