Men's and women's cross country shine in ECAC championship meet

Last weekend the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships at Williams College. The women’s team finished in 10th place out of 31 teams, while the men’s team placed ninth out of 37 teams.

Laura Coogan ’09 had another impressive performance in the 6K, coming in fourth place with a time of 23:14. For the second year in the row, she was named to the All-ECAC team, as well as Co-Performer of the Week, by the Liberty League. Following Coogan were strong performances from Anna LeMahieu ’09 in 64th place and Lisl Esherick ’08 in 67th.

On the men’s side, Anthony Lucero ’09 dropped 30 seconds from last year’s ECAC time, coming in 10th place with a time of 26:52 for the 8K course. Lucero received all-ECAC honors for his performance. He was closely followed by Colin Sanders ’08 with a time of 27:09.
Both teams will compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Atlantic Regional race this Saturday, Nov. 10 at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx. athletics.vassar.edu

Winter sport teams start their seasons with strong performances

In the first weekend of competitive play, winter sports teams showed their potential for their upcoming seasons. The fencing teams traveled to Mount Holyoke, where they participated in the Big One tournamen,. winning six individual medals overall.
The men’s and women’s squash teams opened their season against Franklin and Marshall College. The women spent their competition with a 9-0 victory while the men fell 0-9.
Competing in their first league meet of the year, the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams faced off against rival Skidmore College. Led by three first-place finishes by John Alaimo ’09 and two first-place finishes by Tim Liu ’09, the men’s team won the meet 159-107. While Emily Love ’09 swept in three events, the women’s side fell just short of victory with a score of 148-114. athletics.vassar.edu
