This past weekend, Vassar athletics made history yet again when the men’s tennis team recorded their first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional Championships title. After defeating three pairs of opponents in the first two days of the event, freshman pair Greg Katz and Max Willner recorded an 8-5 victory over the University of Rochester to clinch the doubles championship. “I am very happy with this year’s recruits, and have very high hopes for them, but I did not see this coming,” said Head Coach Ki Kroll. “They are both solid tennis players...it will be interesting to see how they fare against the best Division III players in the country.” This win sends Katz and Willner to the ITA National Small College Championships in Mobile, Ala. on Oct. 11-14. “The nationals will be a completely different level, being that it is only the top eight teams from around the nation,” said Willner. “But we will try our hardest and hopefully show that the Vassar tennis team can compete with the best.”
