During the “Build Your Own Adventure” day of Freshman Orientation for the Class of 2011, The Miscellany News invited freshmen to spend a day “Reporting from the Field.”

The group of students were divided according to the sections of the newspaper. We thought that the new writers would be the ideal people to introduce some of the newest additions to Vassar’s faculty and student leadership.

The News group talked about future goals with Sam Charner ’08, the new President of the Vassar Student Association.

Jimmy Kelly ’09, the first student to fill the newly-created Vice President for Activities position, discussed the challenges of managing Vassar’s 121 student organizations with the Life group.

The Arts group found out about the Vassar College Entertainment’s new “Choose Your Own Vice” campaign, which is kicking off under the new leadership of Evan Altshuler ’09.

The Sports group talked with Angel Mason, who will be moving up in the Athletic Department as the new Women’s Basketball Head Coach.

Following their interviews, each group wrote its own article. For the first issue, we present their freshman reporting efforts in their very own section of the paper.
