Vassar men’s volleyball team opened its season with a pair of wins this past weekend on Saturday, Jan. 27. In their first match against New Jersey City University the Brewers won three games (30-26, 30-23, 30-27), doing the same in their second match against Polytechnic University winning by even larger margins (30-13, 30-18, 30-24).

“I thought that the team played focused, consistent volleyball for their first day of competition. We hustled and competed all day as a team to come out on top. It was fun to see everyone contribute something to the wins,” said Interim Volleyball Coach Paul Yee.

With a tough schedule ahead the team looks to better their record of 2-17 from last season. “This team is not very tall and so we need to continue to improve our ability to control the ball on our side,” said Yee. “I will look for the setting to improve so that we can increase our speed of play and take advantage of our quickness and mobility.”

The team will play at Springfield this Friday, Feb. 2, followed by a home game against New Jersey Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
