This week, Dec. 4, four Vassar athletes were honored by the Liberty League for their outstanding performances: men’s basketball player Lawrence Avitabile ’08, women’s basketball player Emily Haeuser ’10, men’s squash player Greg Kantrowitz ’08, and women’s squash player Nadia Jihad ’08 (athletics.vassar.edu).

Co-captain of the men’s basketball team Avitabile was named co-Forward of the Week. Helping his team capture their third consecutive Hudson Valley Shootout title on Nov. 28-Nov. 29, Avitabile now leads the team in both scoring and rebounds.

Reaching a career high of 18 points, 13 rebounds, and three steals in the Seven Sisters Tournament at Haverford College on Dec. 1-Dec. 3, Haeuser was recognized as Rookie of the Week for women’s basketball. Her performance on court was essential in the team’s capturing third place at the tournament.

Co-captain Kantrowtiz was named co-Performer of the Week. Playing at the number two position, he was the only Vassar player to win all three of his matches at the Haverford Invitational on Dec. 2-Dec. 3, defeating players from Pennsylvania State University, Columbia University and host Haverford College.

The number two player for the women’s squash team, Jihad was also named a co-Performer of the Week. At the Wesleyan Invitational this weekend on Dec. 2, she won both her matches, defeating both Colby College and Bowdoin College with a score of 3-1.
