This Week at Vassar in 1973

On Nov. 14, 1973, three Terrace Apartments were mysteriously egged and pelted with garbage early in the morning. Two apartments were barraged once, and another three times. The victim of the three attacks also received obnoxious phone calls. The 11.16.73 issue of The Miscellany News chose to withhold the names of suspects due to pending legal action by the College.

It was believed that the attacks were related to a controversy over the yearbook that was occuring on campus at the time. The student whose house received multiple attacks was working on a petition calling for a review of the yearbook editor and questioning the book’s content. Many seniors had expressed anger at the Vassarion staff for including a 20-page section on “Glamour” for the 1973-1974 yearbook, making it the largest section in the publication.

The occupants were able to get a brief look at the culprit. Security attempted to contact the alleged attackers, but eventually gave up after the suspects’ roommates claimed that the suspects were not home.
