In the spring of 1995, administrators and alumnae/i teamed up to develop Internet capabilities for the college. In early April, Computing and Information Services (CIS) enabled students to post personal webpages on the Vassar Web. While only the campus could view the webpages, plans were made to extend the reach of student pages to the entire Internet. The College’s Public Relations Office aimed to use the web to provide basic information about Vassar to people off-campus. The library was in the process of designing a server to search resource materials and house academic papers. Despite the plans, there were many who complained that the College was lagging behind many other schools in utilizing Internet capabilities. Acting Dean of the Faculty and Computing Committee Chair Jesse Kalin reassured The Miscellany News on April 7, 1995 that progress was being made to “propel Vassar students down the heralded information superhighway.”
