Fallen lamp in Strong House room triggers fire alarm

On April 5 at 6:45 a.m., Security received a call reporting the smell of smoke in Strong House. Both Security and the Arlington Fire Department were dispatched, and upon arriving at Strong they discovered smoke in a hallway as well as a student’s room. A lamp had fallen over in the student’s room, setting fire to a floor rug and causing some damage to the floor. Later in the day, House Advisor Laura Dicke sent a dorm e-mail addressing the fact that many residents did not evacuate upon hearing the fire alarm. Dicke and Security urge students to immediately pull the alarm and evacuate the building if they believe they perceive fire or smoke. —Lauren Sutherland, Assistant News Editor
