While matriculation confirmation will continue to stream into the Admissions Office for weeks after the May 1 postmark deadline, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid David Borus says that Vassar’s newest class is expected to be a promising group.

Vassar retained a competitive acceptance rate of 29 percent as 1,778 out of 6,075 applicants were offered admission by the college. This is the fourth year in a row that more than 6,000 students have submitted applications.

The mean SAT score of accepted students calculates to 1413 and the mean ACT composite score totals to 31. Students of color represent 32.6 percent of admitted students.

On-line applications have become progressively more popular; two-thirds of applications filed this year were submitted on-line.

“It’s a trend that’s been steadily increasing,” Borus said. “Next year, it will probably be something around three-quarters.”

Accepted students are from 49 states, the District of Columbia , Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and 39 foreign nations.

“In the mail today, we got deposits from Wyoming, Idaho, Brazil, and Romania, and that’s a pretty typical day,” said Borus six days before the postmark deadline.

Diverse interests also characterize those accepted, according to Borus. “Vassar prospective students have done some amazing stuff,” said Borus. “They have performed in some major venues, done some great volunteer work in their communities, and held very exciting jobs. They are a very impressive group, both academically and personally.”
