Sarah Palermo Sports Editor

Roman Czula, who began as Head Coach of men’s tennis at Vassar College in 1975 and has led the Brewers for 22 seasons, has announced that he will retire from coaching, effective immediately. Czula is currently on sabbatical until September 2006 and will continue as a Physical Education Professor, Director of Life Fitness and Supervisor of the Fitness Center at the beginning of the 2006-2007 academic year.

In Czula’s last year as the head of the Brewers’ men’s tennis program, the team made it to the finals of the Liberty League Tournament. Though the team fell to Skidmore in a tough 4-3 final, Czula received Liberty League Coach of the Year honors.

Over the course of his career, Czula has coached Vassar’s soccer, men’s basketball and tennis teams. He has run the College’s intramural program and served as the Chair of the Physical Education and Dance Department. He initiated the Life Fitness program in 1989.
