College plans to add to anti-discrimination policies

Pending approval by the the Faculty Policy and Conference Committee (FPCC), Vassar College intends to add the phrase “gender identity or expression” to its employee anti-discrimination policies, extending official protection to transgendered individuals.

Currently, no Wal-Mart stores in the United States carry the morning-after pill, which is their choice, even if it seems like a foolish one to most people. I normally oppose laws that force stores to carry a product, except for the fact that pharmacies deal with people’s health, and in many small towns, Wal-Mart is the only pharmacy. So, I must reluctantly support this necessary attack on the free market.

The team, which lost two hard-fought league games in overtime previously, finally broke the curse with a come-from-behind win at Clarkson University. While many students were happy to finish their last finals of the fall 2005 semester on Dec. 21, New York City was in the middle of a 60-hour transit strike. Many members of the Vassar community had to brave their way from Poughkeepsie into the paralyzed city, spending extra money, time, and energy.

Board of Trustees selects tenth college president

The Vassar Board of Trustees unanimously elected Catharine “Cappy” Bond Hill as the tenth President of Vassar College, to succeed President Fran Fergusson July 1. Hill is currently the provost of Williams College, where she has taught economics since 1985. The Board of Trustees announced this decision on Jan. 10.
