Doug Dalessandro ’07 has resigned as President of Lathrop House for unspecified reasons. Vassar Student Association (VSA) president Rick Rodems ’06 announced Dalessandro’s resignation at the Jan. 29 VSA Council meeting.

Show pulls contemporary prints from Art Center’s vast collection

Presses, Pop, and Pomade: American Prints Since the Sixties, the current feature exhibit at the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, traces printmaking in America from the 1960s through the 1980s, with a stop at the show’s end in more recent years.

The Walker Athletic and Fitness Center (AFC) has been one of the busiest and most-frequented locations on campus since students returned from winter break. The noticeable increase in use by non-athletes as well as the beginning of spring sports practice keeps the AFC filled to capacity for several hours each day.

After 20 years of service as Vassar College President, Frances Daly Fergusson (henceforth “Fran”) is passing the torch to Catharine Bond Hill (henceforth “Cappy”). The official school constitution calls for Fran to teach Cappy the ways of the school and the secrets of the presidency.

The Sophomore Class Gift Committee announced that the Class of 2008’s class gift will be the establishment of an Internship Grant with the intention of enriching and broadening the experiences of Vassar students, and the Class of 2006’s gift will be a renovation of Matthew’s Mug.

In its last meeting of 2005, the Vassar Student Association (VSA) Council unanimously passed a series of amendments to the VSA Election Bylaws, the document which establishes procedures for VSA elections. These changes, recommended by the Constitutional Review Committee, were made to clarify the language of the document.

This past week, three Vassar Student Association (VSA) organizations were fined. The Class of 2008 was fined $25, Lathrop House suffered a $144 fine, and the Town Houses received a fine of $72. The reasons prompting the fines were all VSA attendence-related.

While many students were happy to finish their last finals of the fall 2005 semester on Dec. 21, New York City was in the middle of a 60-hour transit strike. Many members of the Vassar community had to brave their way from Poughkeepsie into the paralyzed city, spending extra money, time, and energy.

Significant changes to the Vassar food service were made over winter break. Director of Food Service Maureen King said that the changes were in response to the surveys completed by students, requesting healthier options and a wider variety of food choices in the dining centers around campus.

John Palmer
The Vassar Board of Trustees unanimously elected Catharine “Cappy” Bond Hill as the tenth President of Vassar College, to succeed President Fran Fergusson July 1. Hill is currently the provost of Williams College, where she has taught economics since 1985. The Board of Trustees announced this decision on Jan. 10.
