O’Keeffe knew from an early age that she wished to be an artist, and was encouraged by her teacher, Elizabeth Willis. She was discovered in New York by Alfred Stieglitz and soon after her first exhibition retreated to Palo Duro Canyon, TX to paint the natural scenery of her new home. Although she eventually returned to New York, her most lauded works remain her observations of nature.
The lecture will focus on O’Keeffe’s New Mexico works, and will begin at 6 p.m. in Taylor 203.

Kahlo’s busy life—her tumultuous marriage to her mentor, her affair with Leon Trotsky, her trysts with women—made her not only a master painter, but a political and sexual revolutionary. The screening, sponsored by the Friends of the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, begins at 8 p.m. in Taylor 203.
Naked States, a documentary of photographer Spencer Tunick, and Jackson Pollock: Love and Death on Long Island, will conclude the film series on Nov. 17 and Dec. 8, respectively.
