On Nov. 8, 1994, a former member of the class of 1995 filed a lawsuit against Vassar College citing discrimination on the basis of him being a heterosexual male. This lawsuit followed allegations by the College that the student harassed a gay student by leaving an offensive message on his answering machine. The student’s attorney claimed that the student was denied due process by the College Regulations Panel in regards to the incident. The College claimed that the process of making Panel decisions was confidential and that outside attorneys were prohibited from interfering with those decisions. The matter became so controversial that it was covered in The New York Times.
