Suspicious male found by security

An officer riding in a car in the Skinner area on Oct. 1 at 4:10 a.m. observed a young male with a gray hooded sweatshirt on. When the officer noticed him, the male attempted to hide. The officer was able to locate the male. He claimed that he was a student, but did not have proper identification. The male eventually ran away. After requesting assistance from the Town of Poughkeepsie police, the male was identified as a visitor from South Carolina. He was issued a trespass warning and told that he must leave campus. —Ariel Schwartz, Assistant News Editor

Fire caused by speaker in Mug

A fire alarm went off in the Mug on Oct.1 at 12:28 a.m. A small fire occurred due to an overheated speaker. The speaker caught fire. An officer pulled the fire alarm, and Main building was evacuated. Students in the Mug left quickly. The Arlington Fire Department responded. Due to smoke conditions and chemicals from a fire extinguisher in the air, the Mug was closed for the night. The Mug re-opened the next night. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. —A.S.

Beer taken from party in Jewett

On Sept. 30 at 11:40 p.m. security received a complaint from campus response about a possible party on the third floor of Jewett. Eight students were found in a room with loud music playing. No alcohol was being consumed at the time, but the owner of the room turned over a 30-pack of beer from his refrigerator. All persons in the room were underage. —A.S.

Marijuana confiscated in Lathrop

A security officer patrolling the first floor of Lathrop at 11:20 p.m. smelled an odor of marijuana in a dorm room. The officer knocked on the door, and a student turned over a small amount of marijuana seeds, a pipe, and rolling papers. Students are not allowed to smoke any substance inside residential halls. —A.S.
