VSA decision unsatisfactory

As a Student of Color, I must admit that I was very disappointed with the ruling that VSA gave on the topic of The Imperialist. They seemed to have already come to a decision about the topic before the meeting ever took place. A dialogue between members of The ALANA Center, Blegen House and MICA is something that could take place, however, this is not going to solve the problem.

I don't believe in censoring MICA, nor do I believe that the concerns of The ALANA Center or Blegen House should be ignored. The comments made in The Imperialist were blatantly racist/homophobic and just plain offensive to the people who are associated with these places on campus. Whether or not MICA believed their comments were racist/homophobic, the point is we found these comments offensive and something needs to be done about it besides a slap on the wrist.

I believe in freedom of speech, but I disagree when my money is being used to fund hate speech against a group that I happen to be a part of on campus. I am positive that I am not the only person who has these feelings.
