Events e-mails changed to digest

Web Development’s e-mail digest has been up and running since last week. This e-mail digest allows all campus event e-mails to be sent from a single source. A ten day weekly calendar of all the campus events is now available on-line as well.

Prior to the creation of the e-mail digest, campus wide e-mails were only sent to faculty, administration, and students. Alumni who are curious about campus events can now subscribe to the digest. In turn, students who are abroad and administration and faculty who have retired and are not interested in campus events, can unsubscribe.

Assistant Director of Web Development Megg Brown believes the e-mail digest will provide a subtle improvement for faculty and students.

“We understand that e-mails are the best way to decimate information and did not want a drastic change to the current system. The e-mail digest will keep things simple and friendly.”
The idea of creating an e-mail digest developed a few years ago. Following 9/11, students consistently deleted events e-mails which they though were SPAM. In reality, the e-mails contained important information about lectures and safety on campus.
Although Web Development planned to create the digest in the fall of 2001, technological concerns stalled the process.

“The digest was a long time coming. But now that the digest is running, we are taking things one step at a time and working out the bumps as we go,” said Brown.
