Hickman named Liberty League Swimmer of the Week
Katie Hickman ’08 proved herself as a very valuable new addition to the Vassar women’s swim team when she shattered Vassar’s record in the 200 Butterfly on Nov. 1. In only her second collegiate swimming meet, Hickman swam a 2:11:75, surpassing the previous record by nearly six seconds. Not only is this an impressive performance for so early on in the season, it is only two seconds off of the NCAA qualifying time.

Hickman’s success is not a new development, as a student at Xavier College Prep in Phoenix, AZ she demonstrated the same promise in spades. Not only was Hickman a four year varsity letter-winner, she was an All-State selection each season as well. While swimming for coach Jeff Seaquist, Hickman led her school to both Regional and State Championships.

Her current coach at Vassar, head coach Lisl Prater-Lee, is very excited about her potential, “Katie had a beautiful swim, splitting 104.75 and 107.50, great splits for an early season race. She is very a very focused trainer and competitor.”

If Hickman’s performance on Nov. 1, backed by her solid high school record, is any indicator, the Vassar Women’s Swim team should anticipate nothing but excellence during the next four years.
