Ivan may roar, but Rugby and Field Hockey Score

The Vassar College men's rugby team defeated both the weather and a tough Columbia team on Saturday, Sept. 18, to continue its winning streak. Taking the game with a 39 versus 7 lead, the latter stages of Hurricane Ivan threatened to wash out this game. Columbia probably wished that it had as Vassar ran in seven tries to win by a margin of 32 points. The team faces their first divisional game next weekend against Seton Hall, a team against whom they went 1-1 last year.

As for field hockey, torrential ran couldn't dampen the spirits of the 21st Annual Seven Sisters Field Hockey Tournament, but it did manage to postpone the first day of action, thereby leaving two games for each team on Sunday, but no overall champion. Host Vassar played inspired field hockey, defeating Elms College, 3-0 and losing to a top-notch Mount Holyoke team, 2-1.

"I'm so proud of the way we played," Kaitlin Harvie Vassar co-captain said. "I think this just demonstrates to everyone what this team can do when we have all of our players healthy. It was a great weekend."

Up next, Vassar begins Liberty League play with a Friday afternoon game against Union. At 4:00 p.m. at Prentiss Field.
