7:00 PM to 11:00 PM - Rockefeller Hall 101-Seminar Room The Stanley Chadwick Chess Club was founded in the 1930’s and featured many of the best chess players in the Mid-Hudson Valley. Our membership includes youngsters, teenagers, college students, and adults from all areas of Dutchess County (and Orange, Ulster, and Putnam). Our activities include free lessons for youngsters up through college graduates, nationally rated tournaments, team chess, inter-club matches, prestigious guest speakers and simultaneous chess exhibitions from grandmaster or international master level players, and generally fun chess matches. Weekly meetings are held every Monday while the College is open in Rockefeller Hall, rooms 101 and 104 from 7-11pm. For questions please contact Craig Fisher Craig W. 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM - College Center Villard Room Rev. angel Kyodo Williams is a writer, ordained Zen priest and the author of Being Black: Zen and the Art of Living with Fearlessness and Grace and Radical Dharma: Talking Race, Love and Liberation. She is the Spiritual Director of the meditation-based new Dharma Community and founder of the Center for Transformative Change in Berkeley, California. Her work has been featured on the Oxygen Channel and CNN, and has appeared in major publications such as the New York Times, Boston Globe, Village Voice, Wired and Essence. Re. angel Kyodo Williams devotes her time to the emerging field of 'transformational social change' as a means of outer and inner change toward social justice.

10:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center Landing Gallery India in Miniature: Works from the Permanent CollectionJanuary 24-April 23, 2017This Focus Gallery exhibition presents, on an intimate scale, works on paper from India comprised of miniature compositions in a rich spectrum of colors, patterns, and types. Dutch botanicals, Indian war elephants, Judeo-Christian angels, Rajput princes, European linear perspective, British colonials, and Hindu yogis mingle in these scenes. Some come from imperial centers like Delhi, Agra, or Lahore; most originated in the semi-independent kingdoms of the Punjab hills, Malwa plateau, or Rajasthan. Organized by the Art Center and Julie E. Hughes (History Department).

The Art of Devastation

10:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center Temporary Exhibition Galleries The Art of Devastation: Medals and Posters of the Great WarJanuary 27-April 9, 2017Rare today, art medals thrived for centuries and rose to new heights during World War I. This exhibition of over 100 medals from both sides of the Great War reasserts their significance as works of art. The medals come from the collection of the American Numismatic Society in New York, which co-organized the exhibition with the Art Center. Interspersed are war posters on loan from MFA Boston and Vassar Library Special Collections. The exhibition is made possible by the Smart Family Foundation.
